SinnoBoK - wikipedia of software innovation

One major deliverable of the ITEI project will be SinnoBoK, a body of knowledge for software in­novation. Despite the fact that software is rapidly becoming an instrument for realizing innovation, it is remarkable to see that a frequently used ref­erence framework in the domain of software en­gineering such as the “Software Engineering Body Of Knowledge” SWEBOK makes little or no mention of innovation with software. The SWEBOK organ­izes the software engineering domain in a set of 10 knowledge areas, but does not mention the aspect ‘innovation with software’. SinnoBoK will help close this gap between the existing state of the art in software engineering and innovation management.To address this gap, an initial survey was done with Finnish and Belgian ITEI partners to identify the practices and challenges they encounter with re­spect to their software innovation. This led to the derivation of a set of practice areas a company will have to master in order to be successful in deliver­ing software innovations.

Nick Boucart works as a technology advisor for the software engineering group of Sirris, the collective center for the Belgian technology industry. The Software Engineering group focuses on the challenges faced by Belgian software intensive product builders. The group conducts industry driven research around those challenges and actively participates in different (international) research projects on topics like flexible software development, managing product variability and software innovation.
